Cat launches Next Gen wheeled excavator

Caterpillar Inc. has launched its M316 ‘Next Generation’ wheeled excavator into North American, European and South Korean markets.
The new machine features advanced hydraulics, up to 14% more swing torque and auxiliary hydraulic options which allow for the use of a wide range of Cat attachments.
The excavator also boasts a dedicated swing pump, which provides consistent power, giving operators additional multi-tasking capabilities.
The M316 has a 110kW Cat C4.4 engine, which meets US and Korean Tier 4 Final, as well as EU Stage V emission standards.
Inside the cab, the excavator has a push-button start, which can be operated via a Bluetooth key fob. A 240mm touchscreen monitor, which allows operators to program power mode and joystick configuration to their preferences, offers the ability to save login preferences of a number of different operators on start-up.
New viscous mounts have reduced the vibration in the cab by up to 50%, while the optional deluxe cab has a heated and air-adjustable seat.
Cat says it has focused on simplifying operations and reducing the number of actions required to complete tasks. As an example, an auto axle lock feature detects when the service brake needs to be locked or unlocked, releasing it automatically when the travel pedal is depressed.
Maintenance costs on the new machine are said to be reduced by up to 10%, compared with the predecessor model (the M316F), with the change interval of all fuel filters synchronized at 1,000 hours (double that of the previous model. There is also a 50% increase in the change interval of the hydraulic oil filter - 3,000 hours).
Cat’s Product Link system is standard on the M316, offering data on machine operation elements, including fuel usage, idle time and machine location.
Remote Flash technology is also available, allowing customers to download the latest on-board software at any time.
