Connecticut paving contractor strives to be the ‘best in the world’

Matt Stanley, foreman and director of marketing for the family-owned and operated American Pavement Specialists, says CONEXPO-CON/AGG helps the company to realize its goal to become the 'best paving contractor in the world' 

The are many reasons why contractors are drawn to CONEXPO-CON/AGG every three years, including the chance to see the latest and greatest equipment and to mingle with peers from across the the country and the world. For Matt Stanley at American Pavement Specialists, it’s about all of that and more.

Based in Danbury, Connecticut, APS provides paving, milling, reclamation and stripping, as well as fine grading services. Stanley, foreman and director of marketing for the family-owned and operated firm, says the event helps the company to realize its simple and humble goal: to be the best paving contractor in the world. 

We talked with Stanley about his experiences with the event - to be held this March 14-18 in Las Vegas - and here’s what he had to say.

CONEXPO-CON/AGG 365: How has your attendance at the show positively impacted your business?

Stanley: We pride ourselves on state-of-the-art equipment and being fully equipped for every job. Attending CONEXPOCON/AGG every three years gives us the opportunity to stay up to speed on what each manufacturer has on the horizon.

Our goal for 30 years has been clear… to be the best paving contractor in the world.

CONEXPO-CON/AGG 365: What have you discovered at the show that’s been a gamechanger for your business?

Stanley: Our Wirtgen milling machines have made the biggest difference for us. We pride ourselves on being a one-stop-shop paving company.

After the purchase of our first Wirtgen 120 milling machine 10-12 years ago, we really expanded our ability to bid competitively on larger commercial jobs and most of all, municipalities. Milling and paving has become our “bread & butter”!

CONEXPO-CON/AGG 365: What is your favorite CONEXPO-CON/AGG memory?

Stanley: In 2020, we had the opportunity to host a “contractor meet-up” at the LeeBoy booth. We posted a time/day on our social media account and gave away free hats to everyone who showed up. We had close to 200 other paving contractors join us. It was really neat to see our social media outreach really come to life for the first time.

CONEXPO-CON/AGG 365: What are you most looking forward to at the 2023 show?

Stanley: Besides the obvious (Las Vegas!), we really enjoy meeting with manufacturers. This is the greatest networking event our industry has to offer.
