Ford reveals battery range of new electric F-150 Lightning

Ford say its electric F-150 Lightning can power your home during an outage

Ford announced the upcoming release of its all-electric F-150 Lightning one year ago, but the company didn’t reveal one very important detail: how far the truck will go on a single battery charge. Until now.

According to the official range estimate from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), XLT and Lariat models, which have an LR or Long Range battery pack feature, can travel around 320 miles. The standard Lightning model has a range of about 230 miles. 

This is good news for construction companies who rely on their trucks’ ability to get from job site to job site while towing heavy loads.

Ford’s F-Series has been the best-selling truck in the U.S. for the past 44 years and is nothing short of an American icon. But style and nostalgia aside, the truck needs to perform if North American contractors are going to buy in to the electric truck concept.

“We are laser focused on continually improving our energy consumption efficiency for Lightning and the team is really happy to deliver these results for our customers,” said Linda Zhang, chief program engineer.

The model has already been released for pre-order with an anticipated  formal release this spring. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning comes with a price tag of around $40,000.

“With nearly 200,000 reservations, our teams are working hard and creatively to break production constraints to get more F-150 Lightning trucks into the hands of our customers,” said Kumar Galhotra, president of The Americas & International Markets Group for Ford Motor Company. “The reality is clear: People are ready for an all-electric F-150 and Ford is pulling out all the stops to scale our operations and increase production capacity.
