The completed interior fit-out at the United Way of Massachusetts Bay’s headquarters

As many construction teams have done successfully despite the Covid-19 pandemic and its restrictions, the Gilbane Building Company recently completed its interior fit-out of United Way of Massachusetts Bay’s new headquarters in Boston.

Located in a historic industrial building at 9 Channel Center St., the 9,595-square-foot office space was designed by Margulies Perruzzi with flexibility at top of mind.

Gilbane crews added operable room partitions to allow different configurations based on need, glass fronts, millwork, furniture and lighting, as well as various mechanical, engineering and plumbing upgrades.

According to Gilbane’s release, the modernized space reflects United Way’s forward-thinking culture while balancing the original buildings historical features such as exposed brick and wooden beams.

The building company also installed insulation below carpet tiles to add comfort for tenants and to absorb acoustic, ambient sounds.

The project was paused due to Covid-19, but the Gilbane team adapted to challenges and increased safety measures to ensure the space was renovated as promised and on time.

“The collaboration and perseverance exhibited by the project team as they worked through the challenges associated to the pandemic was outstanding and we’re happy to welcome the United Way team to the Channel Center neighborhood,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president and business unit leader for Gilbane in Massachusetts.
