The GD655-7 motor grader from Komatsu

Since March 2019, Komatsu’s GD655-7 motor grader has helped build roads, move aggregates, cut slopes and grade surfaces.

For this spotlight on the model, we’ll focus on the features that allow the GD655-7 to perform efficiently while prioritizing operator comfort.

Running on a Komatsu Tier 4 turbocharged engine, this 218-horsepower motor grader has a 14-foot moldboard and an operating weight of 19.1 tons.

The manufacturer said the GD655-7’s unique dual-mode transmission with a torque converter and stall-prevention technology makes the machine easier to operate for operators of varying skill levels.

The transmission also ensures up to 15% increased fuel efficiency compared to previous Komatsu motor graders.

The manufacturer also upgraded the controls by adding all-new, low-effort fingertip control levers that provide quick response and precision, and with the controls located on the armrests, arm movement is decreased by up to 92%.

Inside the new hexagonal cab, Komatsu has implemented ergonomic changes such as increased visibility, an integrated display, a right-sized steering wheel and an air-suspension seat, which adjusts to the operator’s weight and dampens vibrations from the machine.

The GD655-7 also comes with 2D cross slope standard, which simplifies road maintenance and maintains a desired cross slope angle when adjusting the blade cutting height, according to Komatsu.
